   Combining the disciplines of literature, history, theology and rhetoric/oration, the Omnibus method is a classical, Christian approach which explores the thoughts and philosophies from the dawn of time to the Fall of Rome while teaching students to analyze them by the light of God’s word.  The course studies the worldview of the ancient world as reflected in literature, art, music, historical accounts, and scientific development, and the world views of the authors of those writings.

   With a focus on the literary classics, original primary source documents/historical accounts, the program aims to cultivate and produce students who are culturally literate.

   The goal or destination of this course is for the student to learn to reason well and communicate winsomely.  The program includes learning composition, logic, and aesthetics with additional written papers and oral presentations, dramatized work, debates, tests, and field trips.

   Biblical Books studied include:  Genesis, Exodus, 1st and 2nd Samuel, 1st and 2nd Kings, Isaiah, Jeremiah, Zephaniah, Habakkuk, Haggai, Zechariah, Malachi, Luke, Acts, Galatians, Romans, James, and Revelation.

   Literature and Historical Books studied include:  Chosen by God (Sproul), Gilgamesh (Ferry), Til We Have Faces (Lewis), Codes of Hammurabi and Moses (Davies), Magician’s Nephew (Lewis), Odyssey (Homer), Mythology, Bulfinch, Lion, Witch and the Wardrobe (Lewis), Horse and His Boy (Lewis), The Landmark Herodotus:  The Histories; Prince Caspian (Lewis), Voyage of the Dawn Trader (Lewis), Oresteia Trilogy (Aeschylus), Plutarch’s Lives (Plutarch), Silver Chair (Lewis), Theban Trilogy (Sophocles), The Last Battle (Lewis), Early History of Rome (Livy), Twelve Caesars (Suetonius), Unaborted Socrates (Kreeft), Aeneid (Virgil), Eagle of the Ninth (Sutcliff), Screwtape Letters (Lewis), Julius Caesar (Shakespeare), Holiness of God (Sproul)


    The seminar meets twice weekly for three and a half hours on the campus at Redeemer Christian School.  In addition to dialog and debate, individual and group presentations, students receive reading and written assignments during seminar sessions.  Reading and class preparation are completed at home under the supervision of the parent.


   At the conclusion of this course, students will receive the following high school credits, which are given honors designations:

Ancient World Literature and Mythology  1 credit

Ancient World History             1 credit

Bible/Ancient World Philosophy       1 credit

Rhetoric                          1 credit
